Summer Sunday

My favorite moments are unplanned and genuine and those that bring happiness. I had one of those this morning. I made breakfast for my dad and myself. We do big breakfasts on Sundays around here. Today it was French toast with bacon and fresh fruit.

After breakfast, both Zoey, my 13 year old Cairn Terrier, and Lola, my mom’s 13 year old Cockapoo, has a bite of French toast sans syrup from my dad. I had saved them each a wedge of watermelon.

Zoey is just one of those dogs that you marvel at. Her disposition and temperament are just fantastic. I’m so, so lucky that she’s mine. She’s pretty cute too. She is also the foodiest dog I’ve ever had. Zoey loves to eat but definitely has her favorites. One of them is watermelon. She came outside with me and could barely contain herself when she saw the watermelon wedges. Since Lola didn’t want to join us, Zoey got them both.

It was just a few minutes but cherished none the less. My mom would have loved it, which makes it even more special. Just a small few moments in time that will truly stay with me. It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture to have meaning, and this one proves it for me ❤️


Cooking up a storm

An awful lot has changed since my mom passed away in April. It’s been the longest and most heart wrenching three months of my life.

I’ve learned a lot about myself in a short amount of time. I’ve found strength I didn’t know I had. I’ve grown even closer to my dad and for that I am so thankful.

I’ve also stepped up my cooking skills. I’m trying to meal plan but I’m not great at it yet. I downloaded Mealime and found some great, easy and tasty recipes that I’ve been able to whip up for dad and my dinner. I need to get better (a LOT better) at the whole food prep thing. Serving dinner at 8pm isn’t good for either of us.

But… those meals have been worth the wait. I’m pretty happy with myself in executing these new recipes well enough to get yummy noises from my dad… who equates “it’s fine” for what anyone else would call “delicious”.

I’ve asked him… same thing! So funny.

Here’s the top five… so far:

Tuesday got me like… ugh.

I woke up today. That’s a tick in the plus column.

Got out of the house on time and made it to the dintist early. Two more boxes ticked!

Picked up Starbucks for my faves and lunch for five of us on my way in to the office. I’m on a roll!

Queue the dead stop…

It’s hazy, hot and humid. My office is on the 6th floor. All three (yes, THREE) building elevators are down. Down as in inoperable… broken… trying to kill me.

Me with my handbag that I affectionately refer to as luggage, my full work tote, two bags of groceries/lunch and a full tray of venti coffees and water; staring at these stairs like something is going to change. It didn’t.

It was a grueling climb up to the 6th floor. The only upside was that since I brought lunch I wouldn’t have to leave and neither would a few of my friends. Sometimes I have the good sense to follow my intuition. I’m thankful that today was one of those days.

End of the day… eight hours later… lifts are fixed, right? Umm… no. Building management emails and lets us know that the mechanics are on site and will stay until the elevators are fixed. Or… not. Another email when I got home let me know the elevators will NOT be working tomorrow either. For real? Really. For real!

I wonder if the cafe is going to be crowded… because that’s where I’ll be until those suckers are fixed!


So much construction in such a short time! By far the best contractor I’ve worked with on any corporate project. Fast, efficient, good work and these guys are personable to boot! I would highly recommend them for anything. If you’re in the market for a contractor, let me know. Happy to share!

Construction is progressing and I’m super excited to see the finished project. The before pictures were a little late so furniture was already moved out, but it’s still before.

And just 3 days later…

And currently…

So fast! Demo and framing already done. Now we get the tel/data team in to place all the ports and then drywall goes up, the glass goes in and the paint goes on the walls! Never would have thought I’d be so excited about construction. Ever. So much still to do but it’s coming together.

It Begins Today

I’ve taken on a big project at work and all the planning is finally going to manifest into physical change! Construction on our 6th Floor office space breaks ground today. I’ve worked really hard to make thoughtful changes to our space. I’m super excited to see it come together. I’ve done so much work to make this buildout the best thing for our employees and for the business.

I haven’t taken the ‘before’ pictures yet so I hope I can get them before demo starts, but I’ll take them even if it has begun.

Kickin’ Arse in the Kitchen

I’ve always liked to cook and loved to bake. My mum was an amazing cook. Since she passed I’ve had to step up and come up with meals for me and dad. I’ve got breakfast in the bag… no worries there. Lunches have been mostly sandwiches or salads.

Dinners are the tough ones. Especially on weeknights. I don’t get home from work until at least 6pm and there are nights when my dad has meetings at the club and needs to be there by 7pm. Those are the tough ones that tend to fall to take-out, which I hate.

I’ve got some go-to dishes… mom’s tried and trues… and I’ve got a couple of new additions that have gotten me a thumbs up from dad which I don’t mind saying is no small feat. My chicken parm is on point!

Last night I whipped up Korean short ribs with sticky rice, stir fried veggies and some pan fried & steamed dumplings (which I bought… not gonna lie). Our neighbor was kind enough to give us zucchini from her garden. I whipped out the mandolin and sliced one up along with fresh green cabbage, baby book chop and some snap peas. Tossed them in a hot skillet with some sesame oil, salt and pepper and boom! delicious veggies! I pan fried most of the dumplings in the sesame oil too… the rest were steamed because I’m completely indecisive.

It’s been a minute…

Let’s be real… it’s been a couple of years. Blogging is something I’ve always wanted to keep up with, but it’s always taken a backseat and been a bit tough for me. So much in my life has changed since the last time I was here. Some small changes and some ginormous ones. Some good, some great, some completely and debilitatingly awful.

I won’t bore you with all the gory details, but I will say this… you really do find out who your true friends are when things go to shit. I know who they are. I treasure them more than they will ever know and they will have my love and loyalty for eternity. Framily ❤️

Okay so highlights since I’ve been blog-m.i.a… I got myself a new job with new responsibilities, challenges and amazing friendships. My company rebranded and put on an incredible party at Fenway Park. I bought a new car after 17 years. I finally went to a Patriots game and was lucky enough to sit in a luxury suite and go down on the field after the game. (By the way… the Pats won!) I visited our Las Vegas office and got to go to TPA Summerlin, the Vegas Strip and Top Golf. I went to a Red Sox game with my dad and had awesome seats behind home plate (thanks to my boss).

In a nutshell… I’ve laughed a lot, I’ve cried a whole lot and I’ve survived.

Here’s to fresh starts and beautiful memories… those in the past and those yet to come!
